The Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) is an EU regulation that places a carbon price on imports of certain goods to prevent carbon leakage and promote global emissions transparency.
Starting in October 2023 (transitional phase), CBAM requires importers of carbon-intensive goods to report embedded emissions for each shipment. From 2026 onward, companies must purchase CBAM certificates to account for those emissions.
